Spy Wednesday

Wednesday in Holy Week

Meditation

Today is known as "Spy Wednesday," in remembrance of the traitorous deed of Judas Iscariot. The Introit of the Traditional Latin Mass gives us a foretaste of what is to come after the passion and death of our Lord:

"That in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those that are in heaven, on earth, and under the earth." - Philippians 2:10 Douay-Rheims Bible

But immediately juxtaposed to this acknowledgment of divine glory is the other side of the equation. The following is the refrain that will be repeated at every hour of the Traditional Divine Office beginning tomorrow:

"He humbled himself, becoming obedient unto death, even to the death of the cross." -- Philippians 2:8 Douay-Rheims Bible
