Canon 528 §2
The pastor is to see to it that the Most Holy Eucharist is the center of the parish assembly of the faithful.
He is to work so that the Christian faithful are nourished through the devout celebration of the sacraments and, in a special way, that they frequently approach the sacraments of the Most Holy Eucharist and penance. He is also to endeavor that they are led to practice prayer even as families and take part consciously and actively in the sacred liturgy which, under the authority of the diocesan bishop, the pastor must direct in his own parish and is bound to watch over so that no abuses creep in.

How do you like the sound of a pastor who TELLS a parishioner specifically what another parishioner said to him during weekly confession? I find it kind of sick.....This guy/priest also said from the pulpit that only mentally ill people go to confession. People were horrified.
The church used to be pretty full for the annual confession service during holy week -- Easter duty. Last year the number of priests there to hear confessions outnumbered those going to receive this sacrament. Both those numbers were in the single digits.
I find it very sad. And disheartening. However, I feel a bit better after reading your stuff. You could certainly say that it provides hope.

Sounds like that priest does not want to hear confessions.
At my church, here are two video cameras trained on the the confession room. We have also heard that confession is not a sacrament and that the Easter duty is a crock.
A visiting priest also gave us the you're-nuts-if-you-go-to-confession line. At my breakfast group, we think it is a manipulative move to reduce the number of people who go. It works. We still go but the lines are shorter.
